Apple of My Eye blends nostalgia with vernacular design, drawing inspiration from travels to the sunlit shores of Florida and the misty Appalachian Mountains.

Challenge: How to balance nostalgia with contemporary aesthetics through thoughtful typography, color, and layout choices.

Through thoughtful typography, composition, and material exploration, the project crafts a visually rich and emotionally resonant narrative. Balancing tactile storytelling with refined aesthetics, it bridges past and present, evoking memory and sentimentality through design.

I strove to convey a type of experience for the reader that encapsulates the energy I felt when I experienced these moments. Whether or not the reader is a stranger or someone close, I desire for them to relate these themes to their own life.

The book includes sourced letters, papers, postal exchanges, and other ephemera from family photo books. It encapsulates rustic design, vintage typography, and hand-drawn illustrations to evoke feelings of memory and connection.

Some key visual elements include earthy tones, with a focus on warm oranges, deep greens, and soft blues. Plus, hand-drawn typography and illustrations that reflect both the personal and the natural. Throughout, there are subtle textures and patterns, reminiscent of weathered wood or sand, for a tactile feel.

The project demonstrates the power of design to convey sentiment and connect with people on a deeper, emotional level, setting the stage for future expansion and storytelling through various platforms.
