Cortona, Italy: The Pearl of Tuscany
Project — City Branding
Work — Brand Application, Brand Identity, Typography, Pattern Design

Nestled in the hills of southern Tuscany, Cortona reveals its beauty in layers—through golden light, sacred streets, and quiet details often overlooked.

This branding concept reimagines Cortona as The Pearl of Tuscany: a city defined by its intimacy, heritage, and timeless glow.

Drawing inspiration from hand-painted Italian street signs, vernacular tile work, and the rhythm of winding alleys, the identity merges sacred geometry with everyday charm. Typography nods to carved inscriptions found on Cortona’s facades, while a warm, golden palette evokes the Tuscan sun and the luster of a hidden pearl.

Icons reference Cortona’s street signage and architectural forms, merging sacred motifs with the intimacy of local craftsmanship.
Each element functions like a piece of Cortona itself: grounded in history, textured by craft, and illuminated by quiet wonder. The result is a visual system that feels timeless and whole—an homage to the city’s enduring glow and the beauty found in what’s hidden, sacred, and close.

Subtle and storied, Pearl of Tuscany captures the quiet beauty that makes Cortona feel both rare and whole.
This pattern translates Cortona’s sacred warmth into a tactile motif—repeating floral forms inspired by the city’s stone carvings and ceramic tiles. The soft terracotta and blush palette reflects Tuscan earth and light, while the organic symmetry evokes both the rhythm of cobblestone streets and the intimacy of handmade craft. Subtle yet storied, the design brings the essence of Cortona’s everyday beauty into fabric form.
